More than 33 area high schools will bring students, teachers, Mentors, Sponsors and family members to participate in the FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®). This high-tech sporting event will produce excitement and energy for participants and spectators alike, as teams compete for honors and recognition that reward design excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and more.
The 2016 game, FIRST STRONGHOLD℠, is a medieval themed game, which is played by two alliances of three teams each. Alliances compete against each other to breach their opponents’ defenses, known as outer works, and capture their tower. They score points by crossing elements of their opponents outer works, scoring boulders in their opponents’ tower goals, and surrounding and scaling their opponent’s tower itself.
“FIRST is so much more than robots. It is a life –changing experience for our students as they learn about the challenges and benefits of collaboration and teamwork. Running like a small business, teams are experiencing project-based learning at its best. They are about engineering, marketing, financial planning, business planning, effective communication and presentations skills and much more. FIRST alumni are changing the world by starting new companies, inventing new products and bringing an ethos of collaboration to the business world.” – Marie Hopper, Executive Director of FIRST North Carolina.
